Priyadarshi has achieved super hits with different story films like ‘Mallesham’, ‘Balagam’ and ‘Court’. He made his mark with those films…he even created a market. However, it is no exaggeration to say that many people do not know when Priyadarshi’s films like ‘Mitramandali’ and ‘Premante’ came and went after ‘Court’. Meanwhile..’Suyodhana’, starring Priyadarshi, made a sudden entry this week. The promotional content seemed interesting. Let’s find out how impressed the film was:
Suyodhana Movie Review
Story: Varun (Priyadarshi) works as a sound designer for films. His father Prakash (Saikumar) is a politician. To his mother Radha (Rajashri Nair), Varun is his life. Later, he accidentally meets Sammitha (Drishika Chander), an assistant director cum casting director. Within a few days, their acquaintance turns into love. However, Varun has a disorder. That is, whenever he feels that someone is in danger, he hears a voice saying ‘Suyodhana.. Suyodhana’. After hearing that, he appears in the form of Duryodhana, from whomever he is in danger. This has been happening to Varun since childhood, whenever he faces any danger.
But once Varun’s father Prakash also seems like Duryodhana to him. With this, Varun is confused as to whether his father is trying to harm him. But soon after that suspicion, his father Prakash is murdered? Thinking that Varun did the murder, the police arrest him. Who killed Prakash? How did Varun get out of this case? How did Prakash’s friend Bhushanam (Devi Prasad) help him? What is the connection between Varun’s disorder and Mahatma (love)? This is the rest of the story.
Actors’ performance: Priyadarshi has so far entertained the audience mostly with comedy roles and settled roles. In this ‘Suyodhana’, his role is different. You get the feeling of seeing a new Priyadarshi. However, I think this is a film made before ‘Balagam’. The difference is clearly visible in the looks. Drishika Chander’s role is less of a supporting role for the heroine and more of a supporting role. Her performance is nothing in the range of mention. Sai Kumar impressed with his typical performance as always. Rajshri Nair has settled into the role of a mother that she is used to. It must be said that she got a little screen space in this film. The love role is close to the role she played in the recently released ‘Kishkindhapuri’. Devi Prasad seems okay. Hero Satyadev appeared in a small cameo and gave a surprise.
Technical performance: Some stories are very good on paper. If they are not screened properly, no matter how good they are on paper, they are of no use. ‘Suyodhana’ is also like that. Listening to the story will interest any audience. Director Y.S. Madhav Reddy should be congratulated in this regard. He was successful as a storyteller. But as a director, he was disappointing. As mentioned earlier, this may have been a film made before ‘Balagam’. How can I say that 2000 rupee notes were used in one or two places in the film. In fact, they were demonetized in June 2023.
The makers have also said that the shooting of the movie ‘Suyodhana’ has been delayed due to many reasons. Therefore, there may have been some changes in the story as well. A gripping screenplay is needed for such a story. Only then will the audience pay attention and watch it. The first half is okay. But in the second half, the audience senses the scenes that the director has written thinking of suspense. Therefore, they cannot feel the thrill. There is no doubt that the audience will also find the twist given to Devi Prasad’s character. If the director had been careful in these matters, this ‘Suyodhana’ would definitely have been of a different level. There is no need to name the production values. The visuals are of quality. The music is okay.
Analysis: ‘Suyodhana’ has enough content and setup for a thriller film. But the predictable narration and lag in the second half make the thrill factor missing. If it is an OTT audience, then this film might get a pass mark.
